English version
Please introduce yourself
My name is Fiolina, I'm from Beijing and belong to the ethnic group, Han. My parents are both from Beijing, I was born and raised in Beijing, and now I am studying in IB in Canada.
What’s your cultural background? can you introduce it to me?
I'm from China, but I've never been to anywhere except Beijing, which is a pity. When it comes to culture, it is estimated that China has a long history. After all, it can't be compared with other countries for five thousand years. There is also a lot of delicious food, and there are many famous snack streets in Beijing alone, especially breakfast and snacks. Many people can't accept the bean juice. Some other famous foods from Beijing include snowballing usury and candied haws. The education system in China is very different, too.
Which community you feel more connect to?
It’s definitely China. After all, we are Chinese. But I also like Canadian culture and other western cultures, especially literature.
Have you ever experienced a cultural barrier before?
I didn't really experience it, or at least I have not experienced any discrimination; however, there are still be some maladjustment in living habits, such as not being able to integrate into the westerners. Especially when it comes to eating. Some Chinese can't adapt to what Westerners eat, such as drinking ice water and super sweet desserts. Similarly, people here don't understand China cuisine, and they can't accept chicken feet or anything. Besides, they don't understand the cultural allusions of China, so some things are difficult to describe/communicate.
What are some stereotypes others may have towards your culture?
SMART! I am really not.
What do you think about the problem of cultural barrier?
I still feel that the main cause is don't understand each other's culture.
What would you say to someone who is facing the problem of cultural barrier or new to the community?
Try to find common ground. Of course, if you are bullied, you have to fight back.

SMART!
